medical coding training at home.
There is a lot of hype about jobs doing work from home medical billing and from reading the advertisements, it seems like a quick and easy way to earn a high income living with no experience needed in this area. It is entirely possible to make a fantastic living from this but it is a career and not just any career, a career in the medical field involving money none the less, and this is not any sort of get rich quick way of working.
So what exactly does a medical biller do? This position requires extensive training in various forms of coding, background knowledge of insurance plans, companies, and procedures, and troubleshooting insurance denials to name a few. Once a patient is seen by the physician, the biller is to submit a claim to the insurance company following their specific procedure with the proper coding for reimbursement back to the physician. If anything is wrong or submitted improperly, the claim can be held up for months and ultimately denied which is why so much training and experience is required.
Again, it is very possible to perform this position at home but the majority of the time it will be after you are experienced with time in that particular physician's office or are working for an established firm that provides this service. The physician's income is based solely upon the medical biller's performance and they need to be confident in this as with any other career position before they approve telecommuting from home where you will not be supervised or outsource their own income.
In short, work from home medical billing is a very realistic career position but it does involve time, effort, and experience. Be wary of any claims stating that it is a fast and easy way to make money because like any other career there is no way to earn a substantial income without hard work and dedication.
