After a temporary pause last month, the Military Spouse Career Advancement Accounts program will resume operations for military spouses who currently have existing MyCAA accounts, meaning that they can use their benefits to get portable career training. Whether they're already enrolled as a student or have yet to choose an education provider, an online school can provide a military-friendly education that supports the career goals of military spouses nationwide.

The program will officially resume on March 13th, 2010 at 12 p.m. EST. After that time, military spouses who have existing MyCAA accounts will once again have access to the entire Military One Source website. This Department of Defense program, which supports the educational pursuits of military spouses, provides up to $6,000 in financial assistance for preparation in high-growth, high-demand portable career fields. Specifically, spouses of active duty military members and spouses of activated Guard and Reserve service members (deployed for a year or more) can pursue certification, licensure, education or training.

Accredited distance education providers offer comprehensive, short-term courses that prepare students for careers such as medical billing, administrative assistant, electronic health records, small business management, hotel and restaurant management, and more. With 100% online training in medical, real estate, business, emerging green technologies and other in-demand career fields, military spouses receive an education that provides opportunities nationwide. They can build an educational foundation and prepare for a career. In fact, in as little as 24 weeks, they can receive career-ready skills in today's growing markets.

Additionally, military spouses need a career that can travel with them when they are required to move with their service member spouse to a new duty station. Training in a career that will be readily available in communities nationwide is essential - that's why there are training options in today's portable career fields. Some of these programs include:

• Real Estate Salesperson

• Real Estate Appraisal

• Medical Transcription

• Pharmacy Technician

• Medical Coding

• And Many More

These spouses can benefit from online career-training programs because it allows them to attend class from any location and study according to their own schedule. The course materials are available 24/7 - they can log onto their course and complete assignments when they have time. They can benefit from access to an online education that is self-paced, allowing them to learn at an accelerated rate or keep a regular pace throughout their studies. With a busy military lifestyle, military spouses can partner with a school that understands their specific learning needs and provides the solutions that accommodate their unique education requirements. Course materials are accessible 24/7 from the convenience of a home computer.

In addition to assisting military spouses with their MyCAA accounts, distance education providers strive to support today's military - these schools help active-duty military with their education goals and accept 100% Military Tuition Assistance. Whether they are stateside or deployed, service members can prepare for a civilian career or receive promotion points for courses taken. Additionally, many veterans can utilize their benefits at online schools and access convenient career training courses. Many distance education schools also acknowledge the sacrifices military families make every day and participate in regular community Yellow Ribbon events, industry trade shows and military spouse meet-and-greets.

When military spouses prepare to use their funds to build a portable career, they should consider partnering with a distance education provider. An online education enables them to prepare for their career on their own terms without sacrificing time with their families. They can learn online, on their own schedule, and benefit from an education that works for them.
