If you've been thinking about getting into the medical billing field, you may wondering whether it would be better to start a medical billing business or to get a medical billing job.

There are advantages to each though. So a lot depends on whether you have some money to help you start up the business or whether you'd be better off working for someone else.

Becoming an expert in will require you to get certified as a Medical Billing Specialist. It'll be hard to work in the field without this certification. And if you are working from home or have started up your own business, you may have to justify it by having this certification.

There is a terrific demand for medical billing professionals. With more and more people needing medical care each year it can only get better. The industry is growing at a rapid rate and many doctors can't add staff fast enough. They're sending out the work to professional medical billers and coders.

There are lots of large companies usually called billing services who do a lot of billing and coding work for doctors, offices and clinics.

Once you get your medical billing training and certification you'll want to work for a large company or a doctor's office or clinic to get some experience in billing before you decide whether you want to start a business from home. Once you do get the experience then you'll be in a better position to decide whether you want to go this way or not.

Plus you'll also have a chance to save up some money to start the business or get a small business federal government loan. It's always better to use your own money though rather than having to pay someone back. Your investment would be primarily in medical billing software if you plan to run the business from home.

So before you get a job in this field you'll need to get your training in medical billing and possibly coding. You can go to school online or on campus. You want to check out your local schools and see what they have to offer. Talk to the financial aid officers too if you need help with funding. If you take classes, courses or programs online you want to be very careful that you know what you're signing up for. You don't want to take classes you don't need. And check everything out thoroughly to avoid scams. There is also money available from the federal government for online courses.
